Raised in both the Bronx & Westchester, New York by his Dominican grandmother, MATOS grew up listening to Merengue and Salsa. On Sundays, his father would blast old Cuban music. These early Latin influences formed the foundation of his eclectic style. "I guess you could say I was forced to listen to the likes of Benny More and Trio Matamoros," he says, "but a deep appreciation for that music has always stuck with me."

In the late '80s his older brother introduced him to freestyle music. He took a shine to it instantly. "Johnny O, TKA, 2 in a Room, all of them. I still remember the first time I heard the Jungle Brothers' I'll House You on the radio. This Latin station in NYC had a late-night freestyle show. I loved it so much that I would record it while I slept and listen to the cassettes on my walkman in the morning."

With his first visit to New York's now notorious Limelight in 1993, MATOS started to take in the club scene. His predilection for traditional both Latin and Freestyle music already established, it was against the backdrop of New York's mid '90s club scene that he truly came into his own as an artist.

In 1995, MATOS left NYC for New England, where he attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. His university years proved crucial to developing his genre-mixing style, as he fell in with the student group Concepto Latino which had a weekly radio show on WMUA 91.1. According to MATOS, "That was where I really learned not just to juxtapose different types of music, but to make seamless transitions from Latin to International to House. The radio show pushed me technically as a turntablist and taught me how to compose a cohesive set from beginning to end."

After college, MATOS relocated to Boston. By 2000 he was resident DJ in Boston's preeminent Latin night club, Sophia's. After two strong years at Sophia's he sought a greater range of venues and a more collaborative spirit. Teaming up with DJ Franklin in 2002 and later with Vinyl Disciples in 2008, MATOS found what he was looking for.

Today MATOS continues to work both alone and in collaboration, bringing his unique blend of nonstop dance music to clubs in Boston and beyond. His Clubography is kept up-to-date with his live career, and his latest mixes can be found in his podcast. From a personal standpoint, MATOS currently enjoys hanging with his large family in Boston, New York and Miami, and keeps himself busy digging for new sounds to incorporate into his sets.
